Work Lost in France
Work Lost in France, 2000-2001, four mounted paintings, acrylic on masonite

Documentary paintings are the chosen means of staying in touch with works lost over time due to either neglect or inattention in the case of Book Shelf 2, 1982; Lanterns of the Blue, 1978; Good Reading Light 2, 1982; and The Result of Backbreaking Labor, 1982. These were the four pieces that I crated and shipped to the Galerie Caroline Corre in Paris in 1982. They were shown in Paris and then included by the gallery in a number of group exhibitions of book related art in various parts of France. Due largely to the complications of language and distance as well as inertia on my part, communication with the gallery gradually diminished and finally ceased. At this time I consider the pieces permanently (perhaps happily?) lost in France.
